My NICU Graduate's Journey
Silas was born at 23 weeks +3 days. He was 1lb 5oz and 12 in long. He had a 120 day NICU stay with ROP laser eye surgery that saved his eyesight and was transferred to Roseville Kaiser after 100 days at Modesto where he had exploratory surgery and had part of his intestine removed. There were many times where we were told it didn’t look good, he wasn’t going to make it. He had brain bleeds that resolved on their own, he had pneumonia, countless ups and downs. He came home without any oxygen support, and went through developmental therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and had support from VMRC. He is out miracle baby, that defied all statistics.

What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?
Silas is finishing up his first year of preschool at 3 years old. He can count to 25, say his whole alphabet, spell his name, identify all colors and shapes and is just a funny, bright, caring kid to be around. He went through so much in the first 4 months of his life, but you would never know by seeing him today.
