NICU Hospital for my journeySt. Margaret’s Hospital
My NICU Graduate's JourneyI was born in 1969 at St Margaret’s hospital in Boston. At that time, there wasn’t much technology and care for premature babies. The doctor told my parents not to bother naming me! But the nurses took great care of me and after 3 months in the NICU my mom finally got to hold me! I was able to come home to my parents and siblings.
Every year on my birthday my mom and I would visit the nurses and brings a fruit basket for them and they in turn would give me a birthday gift! We would go to their reunions every year as well and I was always much older than the other graduates.
Sadly, St. Margaret’s closed in 1993 so we never got to go back after that. I am so thankful that there were amazing nurses who cared for me and my parents and grandparents. I feel blessed. I’m now 54 years old and life is good.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?I’m proud of my mom for never giving up on me and always, always supporting me.
I think I fought hard to survive when I was just a little tiny baby with help from a lot of special people.
