NICU Hospital for my journeyChildren's Hospital at Erlanger
My NICU Graduate's JourneyJenna was very critical due to her gestational age. The Dr who had Jenna the day she was born said, we were only 1 or 2 families that she recalls where the baby was as critical as Jenna was, and then has made as much progress as she has.
Jenna had multiple infections and pneumonias, and was intubated more than not during her NICU stay.
Jenna has an absent septum pellucidum, chronic lung disease, was born with dilated kidneys, has severe tracheomalacia, BPD, and more.
Jenna's first bronchoscopy revealed severe tracheomalacia, which indicated she needed a tracheostomy and would be vent dependent. She also requires oxygen and has a g-j tube for feedings.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Jenna has overcome many, many challenges. Mom experienced PPROM at 19 weeks, and Jenna was born at 26w4d. Jenna spent 204 days in the hospital, and has now celebrated her first birthday! She can go up to 7 hours a day off her ventilator, which is huge!
She's working through aversions and sensory issues, and overcoming small victories each and every day.
Jenna's many specialists and therapists are extremely impressed with Jenna's ongoing success.
