My NICU Graduate's JourneyJaniya was born in 2004 arrived at Texas Children’s Hospital @ 24 weeks/ 1lbs 12oz where she continued her journey for 3 months and survived many battles. Janiya suffered from chronic lung disease, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), retinopathy of prematurity, blood infections, low weight syndrome, and other conditions that she fought through. She was released to her loving home where Janiya’s mother continued her healthcare goal with the help of oxygen tanks, machine monitors, and medication with each feeding that overcame most of her battles with prayers. NEC left behind a long journey for her to finish another battle throughout her youthful years. At age 17/2021 Janiya had a successful intestinal repair surgery that discontinued other symptoms with bowel obstruction, and 2023 she had eye surgery to continue her eye health. She survived many obstacles and fought through her learning disability battles while pushing to accomplish her goals from her early child educational years to a 2022 graduate. Janiya continued her education at Peru State College where she continued her love for volleyball and becoming a child advocate to others. Her goal is to finish college to be an example for other kids with struggles. Her words,”Do your best, Not someone else’s, You will win!”
