My NICU Graduate's JourneyTeddy was born at 25-weeks gestation weighing 2 pounds, 2 ounces (which is surprisingly big for a baby his age). We spent the first 3 months of his life in the NICU by ourselves, as the world shut down just 2-weeks after he was born due to COVID-19. Teddy required intubation and mechanical ventilation for the first 3-weeks of life, then transitioned to other modalities to help him breathe. He was able to come home on a small amount of oxygen.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Despite Teddy’s initial hurdles, he is now a rambunctious 4-year old who participates in ballet, tap, and swim classes! Teddy would like to be a “bone doctor” when he grows up. He loves animals, building, dancing, and being his goofy self. Although Teddy’s birth was not what we expected, we appreciate watching all of the wonderful things he accomplishes daily.
