NICU Hospital for my journeyNemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
My NICU Graduate's JourneyMy little guy is our miracle. I ended up having an emergency c-section with my son. My son had his first bowel movement while inside me, and he came out not breathing. I had no idea what was happening because it all happened so fast. He ended up inhaling the meconium and it collapsed his lungs. There was a team of about 15 or so doctors and nurses in the operating room who helped save my baby. The level of care at that hospital was not enough for what my son needed, so a team from Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware came, picked him up, and took him there. My husband was able to go with them while I stayed back in PA to recover. My son was born on a Thursday and I wasn't released from the hospital until that Sunday following. The first time I heard my baby cry was through a video. I finally held my son for the first time 4 days after he was born. He was only in the NICU for 1 week. The doctors were dumbfounded at how quickly he healed. They have never seen a baby in his situation heal so fast. He is our miracle baby!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? He has been a warrior since the day he was born. He has never given up and, to this day, continues to fight! His personality and empathy towards others, is just astronomical. One of a kind.
