NICU Hospital for my journeySt. David’s Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyVisiting from Michigan, my water broke at exactly 23 weeks. I was admitted to L&D at St. David’s where I was to remain on the maternity floor until my daughter was born. Fast forward almost 2 weeks later, I started having contractions, but no dilation. Vola’s father rushed from Michigan to Texas in case I started going into labor. It’s a good thing he did, because Vola was born at 24 weeks and 6 days on the original day he was supposed to leave for Texas. At 1:23 am and just 1lb. 12.2 oz. she was already full of life. She spent 90 days in the NICU where she kicked butt every step of the way and the Ronald McDonald house took me in for a place to stay. We made or drive back to Michigan as a family on September 21, 2023. Proud to say we have since moved our Austinite back to her homeland.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Vola has overcome more hardships than a lot of adults I know. She is the happiest baby, and looking at her, you’d never guess her journey was so extreme. Her every day progress has her father and I absolutely amazed. She has done and will continue to do great things.
