NICU Hospital for my journeySt. David's Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyOlivia burst into this world at 24 weeks and remains a firecracker to this day. She overcame not being able to breathe on her own for half the time in the NICU, it took three tries to successfully extubate her. She suffered from reflux for several years, and still only likes a handful of foods. She has outgrown her asthma and her PDA, and probably other things I've forgotten over time. She had to be headstrong to survive her beginning and she still wields that power today.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? She’s overcome so much. She loves art, most animals, and trying new things. Her current favorites are playing volleyball and doing theater, and she can’t wait to try out basketball and violin. She does have some anxiety, but she’s overall a happy kid. During our time in the NICU, I never would’ve been able to picture our life as it is today. She’s a miracle kid!
