NICU Hospital for my journeyValley Children’s Hospital
My NICU Graduate's JourneyKenzie was born at 34 weeks and weighed 2lbs 11 oz. She had IUGR and stayed in the hospital for one month. She loved to keep the nurses on their toes. Kenzie would set the heart rate alarm off by one or two beats. The alarms went off so much that the nurses asked the doctor to change her order to allow a slightly higher heart rate. As soon as the order changed, Kenzie's rate never got higher than normal. The nurses and doctors were so kind and gentle. At just a few days old, Kenzie got a fever and we found out she had a staph infection. The doctors and nurses caught it very quickly and saved her life. Kenzie fought the infection and proved to everyone she was a stubborn little spitfire.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Kenzie is a beautiful and caring little girl. When I was 19 weeks pregnant, the doctors warned me that Kenzie was going to be premature and the possibility that she may have severe disabilities as a result was very high. Kenzie has beaten the odds and never gives up! She takes every challenge she is given and is such an inspiration. She loves to sing and there is never a quiet moment when she is around. She always puts a smile on my face and lights up the room with her silliness. I’m so proud of my little shnookums and I can’t wait to see who she becomes.
