My NICU Graduate's JourneyLucianne “Lucy” graced us with her early presence at 26 weeks and 4 days due to severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. She weighed 1 pound 13 ounces. We were told not to anticipate much at her delivery as her lungs were too underdeveloped for her to cry. She entered the world screaming and proving to us what a fighter and how strong she is! She kept on proving that to us through her 91 day NICU stay. She overcame several complications and challenges with the same strength she showed the day she was born. Lucy is now a happy, good natured little love bug who is gaining weight and thriving at home with mom and dad and her fur siblings! She is so incredibly loved and so incredibly strong!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? We are so proud of the strength and resilience Lucy demonstrated. Lucy was incredibly strong and kept fighting since she entered the world. Every day presented a new set of challenges for her that she overcame! Being at home wasn’t an easy transition and medical needs continued to present themselves for the first few weeks home but Lucy continued to demonstrate her resilience. She remained her good natured happy self. She participates in her PT, OT and speech therapies and works so hard for such a small little lady! We are just so proud of her and know that she will tackle anything she faces now or in the future.
