NICU Hospital for my journeySt. David’s Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyEaston is our little miracle babe. His pregnancy was considered high risk because my husband passed on a gene in his blood that I developed an antibody for during the birth of our daughter. So essentially my body could have tried to attack his red blood cells. By the grace of God, that was never the case! We scheduled an early c-section at 36 weeks and 6 days, and while we were clear of any issues due to the gene/antibodies, Easton was not breathing well when he came out. They laid him on my chest and I could just tell he was struggling.. and that was the last time I held him until 16 days later. He had a pneumothorax and needed to be transported to St. David’s main for higher level of intervention. His transport team are angels on Earth. They made a decision to insert a chest tube before taking his ambulance ride and I know in my heart that’s why he is still with us today. Well that and so many people praying over him. He was such a fighter and was trying to work over his ventilator so they kept him pretty sedated to allow his lung time to heal. It was a lot of up and down for the first couple of weeks, but every single nurse and doctor truly helped us make it through and they still feel like family to us. We are beyond grateful for each of them!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? He has just come so far from that sick little babe. He is SO FULL of joy, is so tender, but adventurous and fearless all at the same time. People that meet us now can’t believe how his life started when we share his story. It’s also been so beautiful to hear from people how his journey impacted them and their faith. We always knew God was good and gracious, but when your baby is sick you can’t help but question why. It’s so evident God is giving him a testimony that can only point back to Him. We are so grateful to be his mom and dad, and be able to watch him grow even more into his purpose.
