My NICU Graduate's JourneyDespite being born at 28 weeks, Aura was a micropreemie weighing 1 lb 11 oz. She was bradycardic and required an emergency c-section. She wasn't getting the nutrients she needed and didn't grow the last 2 weeks she was inutero. The doctors couldn't believe she made it through that alone! She also overcame so many hurdles to include an IVH, ROP, a fractured ulna, multiple transfusions and rounds of antibiotics and so many more. She struggled to eat and a g-tube was discussed. She managed to start eating and gained weight more steadily. After 10 long and hard weeks, Aura weighed 4lb 12.8 oz and was finally ready to go home!
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? This little girl is such an incredible little warrior. She's endured so much more than so many people I've ever met. She was born with IVF and was the lowest grade and last viable embryo, and proved to everyone that she was the strongest one all along. She is my biggest inspiration and I am so grateful to be the mother to my own hero.
