NICU Hospital for my journeyBaylor & Children Hospitals
My NICU Graduate's JourneyNile and Neil were born at 24 for weeks gestation. At 21 weeks my water unexpectedly broke with baby B/Neil, which resulted to me going to the hospital. While in the hospital the doctors informed me that baby B/Neil would not survive and would die upon delivery or in my womb, but I kept the faith. (I learned later that Nile baby A kept Neil’s sac intact allowing them to stay in the womb). I stayed at the hospital for 3 week’s fighting to keep the boys in my womb. I prayed to God if he could just let the boys make it to 24 weeks I would be so grateful. I delivered the boys during an emergency C-section at 24 weeks and 1 day. Baby B/Neil took a minute to be intubated due to his severe lungs, but a miracle happened and we were able to get it in. This day started our NICU journey it was a lot of sad days, but a lot of hopeful days. Nile spent 127 days in the NICU and Neil spent 212 days. Neil has chronic lungs and a gtube for feeding. Since graduating the boys are thriving in their own way daily. I am so proud to be their mother and thankful for the NICU nurses and team who helped us through this life journey. One thing I will never forget and when it gets tough is “To take it day at a time.”
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? The boys have faced so much adversity. They have fought tremendously to be apart of this world. Every day they attend therapy to get better and stronger. Their smiles are worth a thousand of wishes, dreams, and promises. They prove to me every day that Miracles do happen.
