NICU Hospital for my journeyRenown Children's Hospital
My NICU Graduate's JourneyAsher was born at 1 lb 14 oz in the parking lot of my work in my pants with no medical aid. He spent his first 146 days in the NICU and has been in and out if the hospital for over 453 days. Asher had a heart surgery at 22 days old and required a tracheostomy at almost 4 months old due to paralyzed vocal cords. He can't eat or talk but is an active, determined 10 year old even with chronic lung disease. He has had multiple surgeries over the last 10 years, most recently in Standford to start the journey of reconstruction of his airway to hopefully get him trach free one day and able to eat and talk. In 2024 he set his personal best time running a 5K in 30 minutes. He is little but fierce.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?I am proud of Asher because he overcomes obstacles every single day. His determination leaves doctors in awe, calling him a medical marvel that with all his medical issues, he is living an active, thriving life. Asher doesn't let anything stop him and does it with his beautiful smile that lights up the world. And he does it with kindness and always helping others.
