My dog is the coolest because...
Ruben is the coolest because he manages to bring a smile to each and every person that he meets! Just look at that face!

He is a loveable 6-year-old terrier mix that came to the Fox Valley Humane Association from an over-crowded shelter in Tennessee after he was picked up by animal control. I stumbled across this little bundle of joy 2 months after losing my first rescue, and Ruben was the perfect companion to help me work through that loss. His nickname at the shelter was “Mr. Wiggles” and he certainly lives up to that moniker!

Just like me, he loves to cuddle, go for long walks, travel, sunbathe (I’m convinced that he’s part cat!), and, of course, eat. His unique look definitely attracts lots of attention. I know I’m biased but I think his giant ears, white bib, and brindle coat make him the most handsome dog in the world! He walks with a boss-dog swagger that says, “look at me.” But even though he looks like a beefcake, he is the sweetest, most loving dog that you’ll ever meet. His demeanor will brighten your mood even when you’re having a bad day and his unconditional love with warm your heart.

He is quietly extraordinary and always lives in the moment, enjoying every single second of his life and demonstrating resilience despite his past challenges. I strive to see the world more like my dog because I know it will make me a better person.
