My dog is the coolest because...
In 5 months time, she went from abuse & neglect in another state to uniting an entire town in NE WI.
We don't know what triggered Flare to bolt
out the door on her third day in our home. It took numerous sightings, coordinated efforts from two rescue groups, her foster family, complete strangers, many prayers, a trap & current technology to bring her home.
Flare came home with us on the 5th anniversary of our son's murder; so we decided to name her Dually after his beloved lifted F350 truck. It has two tires on each side which cause the back quarterpanels to 'Flare' out hence: her name change to Dually Flare.
I was able to bathe her and care for her open wounds on her back pads after her little journey around her new town, with no resistance from her. She seems to understand it's all for her best health. Dually has shown no interest in leaving again: patiently waiting at the door for her leash to be attached to her collar before entering the great outdoors.
Her manners are impressive for daily cares, walking on a leash, car rides and waiting her turn for treats.
We have 3 one-eyed cats that she has learned not to be afraid of as they gladly share Dually's beds with her by moving over to make room for all of them. Lol
Dually has a calm demeanor but jumps at every noise or movement. I cannot use any hand cues. She completely shuts down at the command 'Come' so we use "Join me" instead. She is gaining confidence and hiding behind me less as we meet new people. It will take some time for her to totally trust us and come when called, but we have the time and patience she will require.
She doesn't like smooth floors and sadly doesn't understand toys yet.
I have no idea what she thinks of my hugs, but she doesn't pull away, so I take that as a positive experience for her and tell her "you my girl" eight times a day.
I often get a text from strangers or neighbors asking how she is and I'm blessed to say "she has mastered glass doors, stairs & trusts that all our touches are good ones-that's an honor we don't take lightly."
As our son used to say "It's all good."
We have a whole town to thank for that! We think it's COOL Dually brought so many people together.
And yes, Miss Dually sports a tracking device now!
