My dog is the coolest because...
Cadence came into my life in the summer of 2015 when I was working at LHS, and my life has been blessed with her ever since! She was brought into the shelter by the Two Rivers Police Department in terrible condition. She was only half the weight she should be, very sick from eating garbage, suffering from mange and a full body yeast infection. A kind veterinarian at Memorial Drive Vet Clinic performed emergency surgery on her pro Bono to save her life. I went to pick her up and she came running to me even though I had only spent a few short minutes with her when she was brought in. Due to needing around the clock care for recovery, I brought her home as a foster. We spent our first night together and I knew then that she had chosen me as her forever human. Fast forward 6 months and she was healthy enough that I was able to adopt her. We learned that she is 100% Staffy with dwarfism.
Although she is small, she has a huge heart full of love for humans and other creatures. Everywhere we go, Cadence makes friends. She loves going for car rides, belly rubs and long naps on the porch. She gets particularly offended when people pass by and don’t tell her how cute she is. One of her favorite places to go to this day is the Lakeshore Humane Society. She came to work with me most days and showed new pups the ropes and told them they were in the right place and would find their forever homes, just like she did! She loved working at the front desk and meeting all the people coming in looking for companions. The treats were nice, too.
She’s been the perfect adventure partner and copilot. She even moved to Mexico with me and lived in the jungle on the beach!
I never thought I had the lifestyle to be a dog owner but when she picked me my whole life changed for the better. We’ve been through it all and I don’t know what life is like without her. She wants everyone to know that although pits get a bad rep, most of them only need to be loved to be content. Watching her thrive to be the healthy pup she is today has been my absolute greatest joy. As the saying goes, who rescued who?
