My dog is the coolest because...
Lexi is a senior Lhasa Apso that we took into our home about 3 months ago since her owners were relocating out of state and couldn't take her with them. She completely rules our home and does all things in her own way and time. She is hard of hearing and sight, but we have determined that she has selective hearing and sight due to her incredible ability to guide herself by the sense of smell. You cannot fool her when food aromas are wafting about. She loves the female humans in our house since they take such great care of her and give her great companionship, but she is always ready to nap and will sniff out the last person still remaining in a closed bedroom and will bark to be let in and up on their bed to snooze (and snore). She demands a treat when she has been given a bath or has had the fur around her eyes combed free of dried tears from her dry eye condition. She will stand guard by the box that contains all her items until you give her a treat. She will do tricks for a treat such as shake hands, speak, roll over (twirls in a circle and might end up in a roll over), beg, and sit down. For the age she is at, she is extremely playful and is an instigator to play with our kittens. The kittens like to climb into her dog bed and cuddle with her. She barks at us to go for a walk and if we take 5 mins too long to head out the door, she will start chowing down at her food dish and ignore the fact that she was the one who got us all organized to go on a walk! She speaks her mind freely all the time to whomever is in the room. She makes many different sounds that does seem like she is speaking. She will definitely let you know when it is time to leave to go home when we are visiting somewhere. She starts talking at you and gives a little jump like a get up and go and she's showing you how to leave. She follows us around the house to never be alone and has select rooms that have blankets for her to lay on. But, what makes Lexi the coolest dog of all is that she has accepted us. It took a long month of her realizing we were going to be gentle and help her with her dry eye condition. We had to slowly build the trust with her and I am so appreciative that she has found us worthy of her trust. She is bringing so much joy and laughter to our home that we thought would never include a dog. She is her own unique being and presence. There is only one Lexi in this world.
