We met in 1946 in the San Francisco Bay area where I was attending college and Jim was being released from the Navy after World War II. We were married, and he took me to Michigan where his parents lived and where I finished college and began teaching school. After a few years, Jim was called back into service during the Korean conflict.
The year was 1953 when we were first sent to Hutchinson, Kansas and next to Coronado. Jim was once again a Navy Aviator.
Along with a couple from San Francisco who had also been recalled, we began our search for a house to rent in Coronado. We soon learned that there was very few homes for rent. Our solution was to rent a big house and move in with the other couple. Along with many other couples in our situation, we "lived it up" at the North Island Officers' Club and the Mexican Village. And in about two years, the men who had been recalled were released from the Navy. After this, we decided to buy a house.
The Country Club section of Coronado was just starting to be developed and I decided that I wanted to check it out. There were three rather small houses, but none would work for us. So we decided to buy a home on Encino Row, we lived there for 10 years. After this house, we moved into the house we still live in, on Loma Avenue. This is our story.
