Please tell us about your Coronado Memory
My first Coronado experience was crossing the bay on an old side-paddle wheel ferry. It was fun to ride on all the newer boats later.
When I was four, my Uncle "Zim" took me for a ride in his red Fire Chief's car.
Saturday afternoon was when we all went to the "Brat's" matinee. Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and all the cowboys filled our minds. (For 10 cents).
Outdoor movies were a blast at Tent City. Fourth of July was a great day there.
High school years were spent during the war years. In '42-43'-44' we had to play our games on Friday afternoon. We were restricted by the blackout and gas rationing.
Another ferry ride in 1947 was also special. It marked my return home from Army service in Germany.
Christmas day of 1951 was really special. We brought our second son home from the hospital.
In June of 1962 I opened my first business in Coronado. Thanks to many great customers and friends, it was a success. I was also invited to join Coronado Rotary Club.
Many fun times were spent riding the street cars, watching people ride the bridle path on Glorietta Blvd. Or, driving on Ocean Blvd. with the waves breaking over my car. Have you ever watched seaplanes land on the bay? Through the periscope on a sub?
All in all, it's been a great experience to have spent the last 84 years in my home town.
