Your Pet's Rescue StorySophie was put up for adoption when she was 8 weeks old, after being abandoned just after birth and rescued from a kill shelter in Tennessee. My daughters and I went to a PetSmart adoption event in New York City and came home with an 8-week old black and white puppy who we named Sophie. She was already spayed, which required administration of antibiotics, and also may have caused her subsequent incontinence. Luckily, we were able to control that with medication, which she still takes.
Sophie is an alpha female whom people notice when she walks down the street. I regularly get asked what breed she is. I started out with a typical mutt response, but then had some fun inventing breeds for her, like Holstein Collie, after city kids (including some in Orlando) asked if she was a little cow. I was, however, very intrigued by her true ancestry because she is a singular persona. She is smart, but obedience required quite a bit of training and she still retains her very strong will, so I sometimes refer to her as the Dominatrix. She likes to be in control and can cause dogs of all sizes and genders to cower, including her best friend, Wilson, a 90 pound golden retriever. I finally ordered a DNA test and learned that she is an Australian Husky – half Australian Cattle Dog and almost half Husky.
Her heritage is definitely from herders, and she greets and then herds anyone who comes to my house inside. She also herds our two cats -- yes, they can be herded.
Sophie is a wonderful companion and it would be privilege to have her associated with Quantum Leap’s Rescue releases.
