Your Pet's Rescue StoryKimber did not come into our lives easily. She did not appear on our doorstep, we did not wander by her on the street. We searched for her, for a long time. We knew we wanted to rescue. We knew we wanted a German Shorthaired Pointer. We did not realize how difficult it would be to find her. Finally, after months of searching, and being "second in line" plenty of times - I felt I had exhausted every avenue and nearly gave up.
Nearly.
It was around this time that I reached out to a friend who had rescued GSPs previously for advice. She confirmed that still nagging voice in the back of my head, "RESCUE. Someone out there needs you guys just as much as you need them...don't give up."
That night, I joined any GSP Group that I could find on Facebook because, in her words, "A lot of people don't know what they're getting into with these guys and...'Christmas puppies' turn into a fast post on Facebook trying to rehome them."
Not even two weeks later I was wrapping up my Monday at work when I got a notification, and up popped the first photo I saw of Kimber. I loved her immediately. She was exactly what we had been looking for, and only an hour away. My heart raced, even though I cautioned it not to.
That Sunday, we found her waiting for us at the end of a long dirt road, with just a teal collar and nyla bone to call her own, and we drove home with her, finally, a family of three.
In the three months since Kimbee has become our shadow she has continued to surprise us every step of the way. Yes, sometimes that is at 4am when she's learned how to sneak out of her kennel. But, mostly, it is in her ability to love, learn, and trust us as her humans.
If I'm upstairs, and Kimbee's Dad is downstairs - she can be found at her favorite spot at a midway point on the stairs. She is happiest when we're all together.
Needless to say, It feels as if she has always been a part of our family.
Recently, a friend of mine said that I have the "best sidekick" in all of Orlando, and I really couldn't have found more perfect words to descibe Kimbee. As someone who works from home, she is constantly at my side for a good laugh or loving nudge when I need it most. She is patient when I'm in meetings, and a strict advocate for our many daily walks. We take her everywhere - yes, because she is a true #VelcroDog - but mostly because we adore the time we spend with her.
Our lives have forever been changed by this girl we call Kimbee.
