Your Pet's Rescue StoryVangogh adopted us in 2001 while participating in an adoption event for stray cats. He was a little, ravenous baby with a good portion of his left ear missing, hence his name Vangogh. We later found that a pet rescue agency clipped the ears of farel cats they returned to the wild to easily identify them as being neutered or spayed.
Early life for Vangogh was difficult until he was found by his foster mom. Although quite unhealthy and skinny, it didn't take long for him to get used to a happy home life where eventually his foster mom had to separate him from the other kittens because he kept eating their food. Once his health and strength were restored, he was placed in an adoption home which is where we met. Vangogh was hiding under a cat dome, but we could see enough of him to know it was love at first sight!
Vangogh is obviously very photogenic and he never shies from the camera. At the time this submission photo was taken, he had reached his fighting weight of 23.5 lbs (some estimates put him close to 25 lbs). In recent years he's shed close to 10 lbs by following a Mediterranean diet that is rich in tuna, salmon and fine olive oil. This same photo inspired an artist well-known for her portrait work with pets to create a beautiful painting of Vangogh on a wine crate which has a prominent place in our office.
Vangogh is an unapologetic sunbather. Most days start with a massage on his lakeside deck as the morning sun warms his bones. As the sun changes position in the sky, Vangogh can be seen following the sun beams through the windows of his Maitland home.
Vangogh a gifted conversationalist and always announces himself as he enters a room. While Vangogh is his forever name, he will respond to Monkey, Cartman, Chunk, The Tick (tiny head, big round body).
Vangogh is the most precious gift imaginable. He brings joy to everyone who meets him, and a life without this guy is unimaginable.
