Your Pet's Rescue StorySophie found her forever home after being forfeit to a rescue, adopted and then returned to the same rescue (all before she was 8 months old)! Her “big break” to be featured as the Pet of the Week in a local paper in hopes of getting adopted was botched and ‘Sophia’, a Maine Coon, was published instead. It became the best accident ever because the published cat piqued the interest of a young woman, who after meeting the real star, Sophie, immediately fell in love.
Like many well-loved furbabies, Sophie has no less than a dozen nicknames, none of which she can actually hear because she is deaf. But what can be heard loud and clear is her meow when greeting her humans at the front door as they return home from work each day.
Her built-in alarm clock function works just as well for reminding her family about dinner time as it does approximately 30 minutes before the alarm is actually set to wake them up each morning before work (and far too early on weekends). But the around-the-clock cuddles and ability to find (and claim) any available lap are certainly added benefits. Sophie’s favorite lap might be her mom’s when she's reading a book, covered in a blanket with a cup of coffee or glass of wine nearby because it’s when she can play “will I or won't I knock over this drink?”
Her most recent party trick has been learning how to use an inhaler following her diagnosis of asthma - and the treats she gets afterward are her favorite part of the whole process. The ability to breathe without difficulty because of the steroid seems to be lost on her…
At 12, she’s aging like a fine wine and is hoping this might be her big break to finally be published somewhere great!
