Your Pet's Rescue StoryCali, an Austrailian Kelpie mix, is the most affectionate, empathetic dog I have ever had. At 12 years old she has started to slow down and turned gray. She still has bursts of puppy energy and enjoys playing with her new sister- Breeze, a Border Collie. She enjoys coming to work with her mom when she can and loves meeting people, car rides and cuddling. She doesn't like to get her paws wet and is a bit of a diva.
In the 6 years we have been together- she has been my heart dog. I have never had such an empatheic dog who could read me and know exactly how to react.
Cali and her brother were turned into Highlands County Animal Services (at age 6 in 2018) after her owners were sited for too many animals . The Humane Society of Highlands County pulled her (her brother had been adopted) when her time was close to being up. Knowing I wanted a black(ish) adult dog - I traveled to Sebring to look at another furball - that was not a match. BUT, I decided to look at the other available black dogs. I walked Cali and liked her- I took another dog for a walk as well. As I looked across yard where Cali was waiting- she tilted her head and cocked her ears as much as to say - "I am over here - what are you doing over there with another dog." That look convinced me she was the dog for me and the last 6 years have flown.
Cali now has a liver issue (she is on daily meds to try to keep her liver functioning and the enzymes at a controllable level.). I love spending time cuddling with my baby and spending time with her and Breeze. Making memories and having wine bottles with her picture would be special and something to be cherished.
