Your Pet's Rescue StoryIn 2012 Ferris came to our suburban-Chicago back yard as a full-grown feral cat. Thereafter, we took our leap of faith and began "Project Saving Ferris: He came for the food, but stayed for the pets". Saving Ferris took over a year requiring extraordinary patience and a little ingenuity - during which Ferris endured, among other things, a brutally cold winter (is there anything else in Chicago?), including a 3-ft snowstorm, at least two altercations that left him bloodied and wounded, and an abscess over his eye the size of a golf ball! (This was complicated because no local vet would agree to see an adult feral cat.) Over time we slowly gained Ferris' trust such that Ferris finally took his leap of faith into our home. He spent his first, albeit anxious, night inside on a very raw, wet, and blustery election day 2012. With the help of Feral Fixers DuPage and PAWS Chicago (for which we are eternally grateful) we were able to get Ferris fixed, ear-tipped, and chipped in February 2013. Against expert advice to the contrary, we brought him with us (there was never any question!) when we moved to central Florida in early 2016. Since then, Ferris has been living his very best catly life in our 3rd-floor condo where he contentedly spends hours-per-day on the covered balcony at eye-level with the birds and squirrels. Ferris will never be a lap cat, but he is so sweet and social and still loves to be petted. He left his clowder of feral cats and formed a new clowder with us. Ferris is, of course, the king of his new clowder and we remain his loving and devoted servants!
