Your Pet's Rescue StoryWe had a wonderful pair of dachshunds for our first pets as a newlywed couple, and we were heartbroken when we lost them after many loving years together.
With our home feeling so empty without our beloved pups, we decided to move somewhere new to lift our spirits, only for the pandemic to come along shortly after, leaving us alone in an apartment, feeling depressed and isolated again without our fur-kids.
Even though we had only had dogs to that point, we considered ourselves "pet people", and over the years had started watching live streams of kitten rescue and foster places (like Kitten Academy). We also visited cat cafes during vacations and close to home, coming to truly appreciate cats and their “purrsonalities” along the way.
With the pandemic upending so many plans (as it did for so many), we wanted to make something positive of it, so we put all of our love and energies into making plans to add a cat to our family, one we would eventually adopt from Pet Alliance. We were inspired by all of the places we had learned about who fostered cats and kittens, and wanted to provide a good home to a cat that didn’t have one. We did lots of due diligence, doing everything possible to make sure our future cat's addition would be as easy as possible.
We looked through many cats online, looking for one with a personality that would be a good match for us and our living situation. We narrowed the list down and headed to Pet Alliance, and instantly fell in love with a cat who would become our Murray, who ended up being named after a Sumo wrestling commentator in Japan!
He was so gentle, sweet, and incredibly adorable, and at that point there was no question about bringing him into our lives and our home.
As with any loved pet, the long list of nicknames began, and he's been a loved, essential part of our family ever since. We may not have “hooman” children, but when we're asked if we have kids, we've always mentioned our pups, and now Murray!
