Your Pet's Rescue Story
My dear sweetheart cat had suddenly had to be euthanized due to cancer and I was devastated so I wanted to adopt another cat as soon as possible because I could not bear the loneliness and needed to care for a kitty. The rescue shelter volunteer had gotten stuck thinking that I specifically wanted a black cat (which are my favorite) whereas I was stuck more on male and longhaired and actually wanted to adopt a male longhaired ginger cat 4-9 years old but couldn't find one. The 3rd room she took us to had about 4-6 cats in it. The volunteer was showing me a male short haired black cat. He had just arrived and was not adapted to the shelter yet and was only interested in fighting with another black cat not in meeting me. The volunteer gave me a teaser and said to try that. No, he was busy boxing the other cat but this cute little white cat started playing with the teaser and paying a lot of attention to my sister and I. She went and lay in one of the beds and she was so sweet when my sister petted her. I was worried the older black cat might have trouble getting adopted so I went ahead and filled out an application to adopt him in spite of us having no connection whatsoever. It was taking a few days for them to complete checking the application and during that time I could not stop thinking about the little white kitty. They always say the cat chooses the person and I was really feeling chosen. I called the volunteer handling my application and asked if the white cat was still available and if I could adopt her instead. She said that actually worked out better because as we spoke the black cat was at an emergency vet appointment because he'd gotten really sick. When we came to get the white kitty she was happy to see me and all set to go home. Her name is Xongile (nobody can pronounce it) that means 'beautiful one" and even though I ended up with a 1 year old female short haired white cat instead of a male longhaired ginger cat 4-9 years old I love her dearly and we truly were meant to be together. Ironically she actually doesn't even play with teasers even though that is how she made herself known and charmed her way into being adopted. Go figure.
