Your Pet's Rescue Story
I rescued Benny in 2017 when he was brought into the animal hospital I worked at. He was found as a stray that had just been hit by a car, was heart worm positive, and incredibly skinny. When I first brought him home, he was super shy and skittish, and wouldn’t lick anyone, but was so grateful for all of the blankets, beds and toys that we gave him. My other dog, Riley, a spunky senior, did not take to Benny for quite a while and would chase him around constantly. However, I soon noticed them sleeping together during the day on my pet cam while I was at work. Now, about 3 years later, Riley is completely blind. Benny guides him around my apartment and stays between Riley and the edge of the sidewalk during our walks; he takes such good care of his brother and has even learned through watching Riley interact with people that licking and cuddling is okay. It’s so wonderful to see how Benny has flourished and how loving he has become. He is a wonderful companion and I’m so blessed to have him to cheer me up and keep me company while I’m living alone and across the country from my family while completing law school. Also, fun fact, I had Benny’s DNA tested because he’s so unique looking (long body and low to the ground with short legs, a broad chest, and a shaggy terrier face) and it turns out he is a golden retriever, chihuahua, shih-tzu, and bichon mix!
