Your Pet's Rescue Story
Sunshine Pie was rescued by the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando (PAGO) in early 2020. She came from St. Croix, an island in the Caribbean impacted by hurricanes in recent years. Recovery of the island remains a challenge, and with it came sheltered pets that needed help.
She came to Central Florida with a personality as big as the Sun, and as sweet as Pie. Sunshine, as she was appropriately named by the shelter folks, needed treatment for multiple health issues and was carefully doctored at PAGO until she was ready to be adopted. At the same time, the world was facing its own struggle with a pandemic, so we wanted to adopt a pet that needed our help and support. We also know from experience that the love we would receive from our new family member would be priceless. We were happy to help and accepted her need for heartworm treatment and to work through a skin issue that had caused her pain and itching, as well as great hair loss. It was March 14, Pi (π) Day, so we adopted Sunshine and nicknamed her Pie.
And four months later, she has completed heartworm treatment (thanks to PAGO), and has been aggressively treated for her skin problems. Heartworm treatment has included very restricted activities, but she is now free to run off leash. At the age of six, she loves to run and play inside and out, but really loves to be outdoors and chase lizards. And, she now has a full coat of flowing, beautiful blonde hair. She is still the lovable and cuddly pup that deemed her one of the favorites at the shelter. It has been a pleasure to adopt and care for Pie, and she truly has rescued us by just being her bright and loving self.
