Peaches is a brave and resilient stray Chihuahua at our rescue here in New Zealand.

Peaches came to our registered charity, New Zealand Chihuahua Rescue on 3 June 2023, suffering from a serious but treatable brain condition called Meningoencephalitis (MUE).

When she arrived in Christchurch by plane, we were shocked to find that Peaches had no vision and was constantly "circling," a very serious symptom of her brain inflammation caused by her immune system attacking her brain. This was what made her blind.

After multiple vet consults and tests, Peaches was diagnosed with MUE. While this condition is serious and can be difficult to witness, we learned that with the right treatment, there’s hope for improvement and even reversal of symptoms. It’s been a long, expensive journey, but Peaches has shown incredible strength and determination, far exceeding vet expectations.

Today, Peaches has regained her vision, learned commands, and made significant progress with crate training. Though her journey is far from over, she continues to improve steadily and is adored!
