I’ll never forget the day I took my Pepper Kitty home. In those days, the small animal control facility had every kitten’s cage padlocked, keeping visitors from meeting with animals without permission. On this day, Pepper’s cage happened to be mistakenly left unlocked by cleaning staff that morning. Taking this as a sign, I sneakily opened her door followed by her jumping into my arms to wrap her fat paws around my neck. As she nuzzled into my chest and purred away, I knew she was asking to come home with me. I think fate brought us together that day and I’ll be forever grateful for that.
