The March of Dimes is actively working to reduce infant mortality. They have supported researchers who have developed a new blood test for women: researchers developed a blood test using biomarkers in maternal blood that accurately identified 75 to 80 percent of pregnant women who would deliver babies up to two months prematurely. This finding may help predict, and prevent, premature birth.

There are multiple factors that can mitigate this staggering statistic, including better access to substance abuse treatment and early prenatal care.
