The March of Dimes is actively working to reduce infant mortality. They have supported researchers who have developed a new blood test for women: researchers developed a blood test using biomarkers in maternal blood that accurately identified 75 to 80 percent of pregnant women who would deliver babies up to two months prematurely. This finding may help predict, and prevent, premature birth.

- With the seventh-highest infant mortality rate in the nation, Indiana must do more to protect our expectant mothers and newborns. There are multiple factors that can mitigate this staggering statistic, including better access to substance abuse treatment and early prenatal care. If we provide these critical services sooner, there is a higher chance of keeping both mom and baby healthy before, during and after birth.

- "Every Indiana baby deserves a chance to live a long, healthy life, yet hundreds die each year from preventable causes. By ensuring that every baby has a safe sleep environment and connecting every pregnant woman to early prenatal care, we can make Indiana the best in the Midwest for infant mortality and celebrate more first birthdays across our state."
