For everyone that met my ZoeGirl, y’all know you met a special soul. She was sweet and gentile, obedient but stubborn and has been my ride or die partner, my companion and confidante for almost 9 years. She filled a hole in me I didn’t know was there.

I couldn’t say no to her Scooby Doo face or her gently pawing me when she wanted what I was eating. Nathan got her hooked on goldfish crackers, John on spicy deep fried pork skin, Dawn on anything if she was walking out of a gas station…and me…she got everything I could give her.

Nine years ago Meagan Stasko, a stranger on Facebook, entrusted me with her and forever changed our lives. I sent Zoe off to be with the angels today after discovering she had liver cancer.

I held her head in my lap with tears streaming onto her cheek while thanking her for bringing us so much joy. I told her how much we all loved her and told her she could now chase all the squirrels she wanted. I laid my head on her chest as she drew her last breath, wrapped her in her favorite blankets with her leash and collar and laid her to rest beneath the redwoods and flowers of her home.

Today was hard. Really hard. Tomorrow will be as well. But I’ll draw from every memory I had with this beautiful soul and appreciate the gifts she gave me every day. See you later my ZoeGirl
