Pet's Story or Bio
We got Checkers (& his sister, Summitt) at 6-weeks old on Feb. 13, 2016. As my husband ‘bleeds’ orange, blue ticks fit the bill. Checkers is very vocal, very active & very possessive of everything in his compound (the back yard). He has adapted well in his role as a pet & not a hunter, although he does a good job of treeing the squirrels in the yard!
He still believes he’s a puppy at times & will try to conform his 76 pounds to lapdog size. We accommodate him as best we can.
Don’t let the heart shape of his blaze fool you - he’s a sneaky fella! We rescued a 3rd blue tick in March. Checkers is smitten with the new girl, Iris.
We were very pleased this year when the Blue Tick Coonhound was named as the official state dog of the Great State of Tennessee.
