15 years ago, on the morning of my birthday, I looked out of our bedroom window to see a black and white puppy sitting in the middle of our quiet street, chained to my mailbox........He would become one of the most well known dogs on Maui. His surfing and watersports exploits are the stuff of legend.......

From the first time he stood, shaking, on a surfboard, I knew.
He knew.
This was where he wanted to be.
This was fun.

The sight of me carrying the big yellow board to the water elicits yelps of delight.
Bounds of joy.
And the desperate need to play in the waves.

He is a natural surfer.
His ability to stay on top of the bucking board even in the most difficult conditions is astounding.
He stays on, where I fall off!

As the wave approaches, he hunkers down. Anticipating.
Lowering the center of gravity.
Preparing for the push as the wave takes us.

No wave is too small.
None too big.
However many times we fall off.
No matter what.
There is always the next wave.

This is unfathomable.
He's a dog.
But he is more.

He's a surfer. He is Sevin!
