Tell us a little about you
My name is LaWanda R. Felder and I am a Professional School Counselor at Cross Elementary School in Berkeley County. I have over 25 years of experience as a School Counselor, all of which have been at Cross Elementary School. I am also an adjunct professor at South Carolina State University. In twenty-five plus years as a School Counselor, I have seen a lot of changes and growth in the district and our profession. This current pandemic has brought about some changes that we have never witnessed before; therefore, we have to make some adjustments in order to become better servants. In all of the obstacles, there have been some insurmountable life lessons and learning. I believe I have the best job in the world.

I am an Adjunct Professor in the Counselor Education Department at South Carolina State University for almost 10 years. I am also the Executive Director of Palmetto State School Counselor Association (PSSCA). I love serving our school counselor association and hope to meet and work with each of you. I have been very involved with the governing board of Palmetto State School Counselor Association for over 15 years serving as President, Conference Chair, and in many other capacities. This role is new for me and brings much excitement. As the Executive Director, I have the distinct opportunity to grow and learn from School Counselors throughout the state and nation.

I am an avid walker and stay active. I walk 3-4 miles every morning before work and some evenings as well. I am a licensed Zumba instructor and I host a class twice a week in the evenings. This is my reflection time, planning time, and stress reducer. I love directing weddings, hosting receptions, parties, showers, etc. and I love dancing, especially line dancing.
