Mission Statement

Albany Animal Welfare is a not-for-profit animal rescue focussing on reducing animal homelessness in the Great Southern Region through rescuing and rehoming.

About

Established in 2019 to provide support to animals in need in the Great Southern region and beyond, Albany Animal Welfare (AAW) has rescued and rehomed over 550 Dogs and over 900 cats along with rabbits, rats, guineapigs, birds and even fish.  AAW has also proudly subsidised the sterilisation of a further 300 plus dogs and cats. We are a charity funded by public donations and a small op shop run by a dedicated team of volunteers.

AAW stives to promote best practice pet ownership including population control by desexing pets and promoting containment of cats to protect our delicate wildlife. We strive to eliminate euthanasia of homeless animals who are otherwise, healthy, happy animals and who fit the criteria to be rehomed.

Until now AAW has cared for their animals with the wonderful support of Foster Carers who open their hearts and homes to animals while they wait for their forever homes.

We have now reached a point where we desperately need a shelter facility to help cope with the sheer number of animals in need.  We hope to acquire a small facility with the aim to house up to 20 cats and up to 10 dogs.  To do this, we desperately need donations.

The animals we help, come from many places such as private surrenders, pounds, and the RSPCA. We often have many urgent surrender requests come through at any time.  This often occurs due to pet owners becoming homeless themselves, pound pets that have not been claimed and have served their time or litters of kittens dumped or found.   Having a facility means we could accept these animals, to promptly get them safe and out of harm’s way.

We also receive requests for emergency accommodation for pets in need. Sometimes this is from families escaping domestic violence who own pets or when owners are suddenly hospitalised and require somewhere safe and short term to place an animal until arrangements can be made.

A shelter facility would enable us to accommodate these pets in need. We hope you can help AAW achieve their goals and help the animals in need within the Great Southern Region and beyond.
