Your Pet's Story
During my shift at an animal shelter in New York I went upstairs to the offices to find Roman (pictured right, foxy) waddling around the boss. He was 20lbs, totally spherical, his name card simply read: “Roman, fat chihuahua, 12yo”. I fell in love instantly— I had to take a walk to clear the oxytocin. Two years later he is healthily weighing in at 9.2lbs and the vet ages him at only 9. Last week, Roman had 26 bladder stones removed in an emergency surgery. He is on the mend, sporting a blue cone, and in the best shape of his life. I took this photo of him with his friend Ursula, the set design includes dog portraiture from the likes of Max Ernst and Raymond Pettibon, underscoring my belief that the “pet portrait” has a place in art history! Roman and I now live happily in Colorado.
