The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County announces the 3^nd Annual Humane Society Holiday Star contest. The contest will allow individuals who have adopted or rescued pets to upload high-resolution, high-quality digital photos of their adopted or rescued dog(s) and/or cat(s). The photo of the dog(s) and/or cat(s) with the most votes will be used for HSMSC's annual holiday card.

The contest will award prizes to entrants whose pictures are voted to be the best by the viewers through donation voting. Beginning November 1 at 8 a.m. CST, entrants may upload their photo, add their contact info and then start encouraging friends and family to vote. Submit your pet's photo for a donation of $10 beginning on November 1.

Photos are displayed on the website for voting until 9:00 PM (CST), November 15. Voting closes at 9:00 PM (CST) that day.

Votes are $1, minimum of 5 votes each transaction.

Photos may contain more than one pet, as long as at least one pet in the photo was adopted or rescued (independently rescued animals are also eligible—it is not necessary that your pet be adopted from a recognized group).

You may enter as many photos as you want; however, keep in mind that friends and family votes add up, so spreading those votes among multiple entries limits your chances of winning.

When you donate to vote, you will receive a "bank" of votes that then need to be applied to the entries you wish to vote for. You can place all votes on one entry or place a few here, a few there, etc.

You can email links to family/friends to encourage voting for your pet's photo.

On your pet's public page, there is a "share" button that allows you to share your entry through Facebook and other social networking sites.

All submitted photos are subject to review and approval by HSMSC before the entry becomes visible.

All submitted photos become the property of HSMSC to be used at their discretion for any and all marketing purposes.

All proceeds will go toward HSMSC's mission of caring for injured and abused animals. All donations are non-refundable. HSMSC is a 501(c) (3) organization. Donations are tax deductible.

Important: if your submission is low resolution or poor quality, your image may be excluded or you may be asked for a better quality image. To qualify, photo entries must be available in color, of horizontal (landscape) orientation, high resolution and able to be printed at a size of 8.5" x 11" without significant loss of quality.

If your photo was taken by anyone other than you (such as a professional photographer), you MUST have permission to use the photo. If your photo was taken by a professional photographer and they approve its use, we can list their name or logo on the back of the card if desired.
