Meet Gidget! When you look into those huge, trusting eyes, you would never guess that just five years ago, she was shot by a BB gun and found injured in a field by Animal Control.

We were lucky enough to make her part of our family after she had physically mended. The cruelty inflicted upon her, however, left emotional scars. She was terrified when she first joined our family, nervously watching us from afar, keeping one eye on us when she became brave enough to explore the food and water we offered.

Gidget has thrived for five years and is now a mama’s girl. But she will always carry with her the BB embedded in her body. When your fingers graze her fur, you still feel the hard pellet—it serves as a constant reminder of how cruel people can be, but even more so, how resilient animals are.

Today, she follows me everywhere, always on the lookout for treats, belly rubs, or a lap. She doesn’t have much to say, but her loud, satisfied purrs tell you everything you need to know.
