Hazel 
 
It almost didn’t happen, 
But it was meant to be. 
I applied for Hazel, 
But she applied for me.  
 
I left my work to get her, 
Was time to pick her up,  
To bring her home as family,  
This beautiful, darling pup! 
 
But they said she was adopted 
By someone out of state. 
I had given them all the papers  
It had to be a mistake! 
 
The others asked for a picture 
Of the two of us together. 
Hazel cried, as did I,  
The tears fell on my sweater! 
 
It was settled when they saw us, 
And they all came to agree, 
Hazel could go home with us 
For we looked like family.  
 
She loves to cuddle mommy, 
And daddy cuddles too, 
She often goes to breweries. 
She loves a microbrew! 
 
She is very into fashion 
And has a stylish collar 
The bandanas worn around her neck 
Make all the pooches holler! 
 
Her bark is sweet just like her bite. 
She always greets the neighbor. 
She has been the biggest blessing 
And to Flaire, her sis, a savior.  
 
It almost didn’t happen,  
But it was meant to be. 
I thank my stars that Hazel’s here 
And in our family.
