Pet's Bio or Adoption Story
When Gary was rescued from the shelter he had a bad skin condition and was under weight. It was believed at the time that he was roughly 10 months old.
He was fostered by a terrific foster Mom and family that worked hard to address his health issues. They were very successful in treating his issues. He is now a very healthy 80 lbs and is cured of his skin condition.
They also took him to training classes to learn basic manners. He is able to follow basic commands like sit, stay, down, and leave it. He also has fairly good leash manners.
Despite being a terrific dog, he did not get adopted quickly. When we took photos of him, he had been in foster care for roughly 10 months.
One of the reasons he was having trouble getting adopted (beyond the stigma of being a pitbull dog) was that his foster mom couldn't always take him to adoption events because of her work schedule. After we took his pictures and created a slideshow to tell his story, the foster Mom's Mom started taking him to every adoption event. This was very helpful because it allowed potential adopters to see his great personality. Also, the volunteers at Jake's Wish Dog Rescue got to know him and started talking him up. It took nearly 4 months of consistent effort, but eventually an appropriate adopter came forward and adopted him. He was adopted by a family with several dogs including another pit bull dog. He was only recently adopted (9/9/2017) but is doing very well.
We are beyond excited that he found a great home!
