Big Rig
Winner of the 2022 Howling Heroes Contest
Big Rig is an American pocket bully with a heart as big as his smile. Despite being born with a double lip and cleft palate, he exudes joy and spreads cheer wherever he goes. This lovable pup captured the hearts of the LAFD and won first place in their Howling Heroes contest in 2022, earning him the prestigious title of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s official K-9 mascot.
Big Rig's infectious enthusiasm is contagious, and he has brought smiles to countless faces throughout his community. He has participated in events such as saluting honorees at the LAFD's 2022 VALOR Awards at Dodger Stadium and riding on a firetruck in the Pacific Palisades on the 4th of July.
His journey to happiness was not an easy one. Big Rig's start in life was marked by challenges, including bouts of pneumonia, tube feeding, and constant care. But he was saved by an organization called Road Dogs and Rescue in Southern California, who gave him a chance at life. At just a few months old, he found his forever home and blossomed into a cheeky, confident, and joyful little guy. Today, he spreads awareness about animals with disabilities and never gives up on bringing happiness to those around him.
