Happy Cosmo
Winner of the 2021 Howling Heroes Contest
Happy Cosmo is one of the hardest-working canines in California. The six-year-old Cavapoo from Sherman Oaks is a volunteer therapy dog with a heart of gold. He was the first-place winner of the LAFD’s inaugural Howling Heroes contest, earning him the title of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s first official K-9 mascot!
From saluting honorees at the LAFD’s 2021 VALOR Awards at Dodger Stadium, to LAFD storytime with kiddos at the Grove, Happy Cosmo was a huge hit everywhere he went. Although pandemic safety restrictions somewhat limited his LAFD ambassador duties, Happy Cosmo remained busy during the pandemic.
Happy Cosmo is also a therapy dog for the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team (CRT), and an active member of the PUPs (Pets Un-stressing Passengers) program at Los Angeles International Airport - providing stress relief and comfort to passengers through interaction with pets. “This dog loves everyone, including other dogs,” shared Wendy Barnard, Happy Cosmo’s owner. “The only time you hear him bark is if he catches a glimpse of a squirrel!”
Happy Cosmo enjoys visiting schools, senior centers, and fire stations. He loves making friends everywhere he goes.
