Why is your dog a hero?
My dog Tam, is my Hero on all levels after taking a risk and [sticking her neck out] to meet me. Unbeknownst to both of us, we came together and saved each other's lives. Since 2008 I've lived on the streets a homeless veteran.
I'm only discharged US Army veteran that the West LA VA failed me. In the middle of treatment they just charged me to the streets because of covid. Devastated to be out there my service connected disabilities overtook me to the point of an overdose on fentanyl. Just desolate depressed just couldn't bear with the fact that I was out there.
I didcharged after 45 days in UCLA medical center and then New Vista Post acute. Depression that I suffer from takes me way below controllable suicide levels and thoughts. During my time in the hospital I worked closely with the VA and obtaining permanent housing a big transition for me after being on the street since 2008, I needed an emotional support animal. I went to West LA animal shelter. After looking at the two I decided against, disappointed I didn't want to move into a new apartment all alone.
I heard a thud, Tam snuck out of her pen came to the gate she literally stuck her neck as far as she could to kiss my fingers that was holding the fence. Her shelter term expired she's waiting to be euthanized so I adopted her. We are all we have now!
