Why is your dog a hero?
Little Willy lived in an alley behind my parents’s house in South LA, where I grew up, near FS 33.
When I would go to the house, to cut the grass, I became friends with Willy little by little over time.
At first she would run away, then one day I was able to pet her. Then a month or so later, she let me pick her up and she licked my face.
That day, I decided to give her a real home and we named her Willy.
I’ve had her now for six years. The vet says she’s about 10 yrs old.
Willy is a mix of some type, a mutt.
I know this, she has to have some raccoon in her.
I don’t know how she survived on the streets of L.A. Without a doubt she has a lot of street smarts.
In time, little Willy became friendlier with other people, children, and babies. She loves being picked up hugged, and kissed. She will lick you to death, so affectionate and gentle.
She showers us with unconditional love always. It’s incredible to me how fearless she is, five lbs fighting weight.
At home or when we travel, she is constantly on alert for trouble. It’s amazing to me when she senses something not right, a true protector of our family, our hero.
We will do everything in our power, to make her life sweet. She’s giving us so much joy.
We will always be so ever grateful that Willy chose us, to be her forever family.
