Why is your dog a hero?
Sirus is a hero for a few reasons! First, he survived four months in the Lancaster Animal Shelter, originally picked up as a stray in November 2019. In the two years since my wife and I adopted Sirus, he has proven to be a dedicated member of our family. Sirus has overcome untold neglect and potential abuse from his original owner, but after significant training and patience on both Sirus’ and my part, he has developed into a confident and sweet boy.
Sirus’ name is inspired by the only first-responder canine to die during the terrorist attacks on 9/11: New York Port Authority Police Department’s Officer Sirius. Although few canines can be compared to Officer Sirius, I’d like to think that my Sirus shares the same spirit of companionship and bravery that so many other first-responder canines like Officer Sirius share.
Everyday my Sirus leaves his comfort zone to become a better dog, and that makes my life and my wife’s life more fulfilling. Like man’s best friend should, Sirus is always there to comfort my wife and I when times are tough. We are grateful to have found Sirus at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, and throughout everything I am proud to call him a hero.
