Incredibly, this year marks the 20th anniversary of Homeward Bound Animal Shelter! After many decades of boots-on-the-ground work in animal welfare, the Manistee County Humane Society was finally able to realize their dream of a physical shelter in 2005. In the twenty years that have followed, thousands of animals have come and gone from our doors. They’ve come in the most vulnerable state, without a place to call home, and they’ve left us with a much brighter future ahead of them.
Offering dignity, love, and the best possible care to these wonderful animals during their time with us is our driving force. That care comes in all forms—adequate housing, necessities (like endless litter box cleaning!), enrichment and stimulation, and often, just… cuddles.
We are focused on providing the full spectrum of preventative care, including spay and neuter prior to adoption, as well as providing treatment in times of illness. On average we are caring for 90-130 animals at a given time. Our hope is to continue to shed light on our mission as the only 501c3 non-profit, MDARD-registered animal shelter serving the adoptable animals of Manistee County. After twenty wonderful years, like with all things, we are facing some real wear-and-tear on our facility. Funds raised through this contest will go towards much needed improvements with areas of focus, based on funds, being repairs to our dog yards and maintenance of our sewer system, and updates to our cat condos. These things aren’t the most glamorous, but they are necessary!
We are so grateful for this fundraising opportunity, and to our steadfast and endlessly supportive community.
