For just over 10 years, Great Lakes Boxer Rescue has remained true to its’ original mission and has rescued nearly 1000 Boxers throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and as far as Kentucky. Our all-volunteer foster based rescue, a 501©3 non-profit charitable organization, is committed to rescuing and rehoming Boxers who find themselves alone, roaming the streets, in animal control facilities, kill shelters, or with owners who can no longer care for them. We provide thorough medical care for all of the dogs in our program, including vaccinations, monthly preventative, wellness care, and spay and neuter surgeries. For many of our Boxers, their care extends beyond preventative practices and includes dental cleanings, many with necessary extractions, orthopedic surgeries including amputations and TPLO, advanced heart procedures at outstanding university veterinary hospitals, hyperbaric chamber therapy, behavioral training with experts in their field, and any other necessary lifesaving or life enhancing treatments. We spare nothing to get our Boxers healthy and adoptable, to ensure that our dogs will never be abandoned, hurt or discarded ever again.
GLBR does not receive any money from local or federal government agencies or grants. Ninety-eight-point three (98.3) percent of all donations go directly to the medical care and behavior modification of our dogs to achieve the best possible adoption scenario. The balance is required insurance and tax filings. GLBR relies solely on the generosity and support of people like you for the success of our programs. Mission
The mission, as it was originally written in 2014, is to rescue and rehabilitate the boxers that others have failed, the unwanted, the unloved, the abandoned. To carefully choose their forever home based on the best match between the dogs and their new families. To provide complete medical care, including spay/neuter, heartworm testing, vaccines, and parasite removal. To do our best to know the temperament of each dog in order to know the best placement option. To offer support following adoption and to educate the public about the Boxer breed and the importance of spay/neuter. To promote the importance of positive reinforcement training, and to always care, but to recognize our limitations.
